Rural mobile coverage Solutions

wavemobile is a small UK company with ambition to provide a flexible solution to the small coverage islands which prevent many rural areas from having mobile service.

We built the network and technology we use from the ground-up, and aim to simplify the process by which multiple operators can be served.

The network for not-spots

Zero mobile service?

A different approach to

The Not-Spot Problem

The technology exists to provide combined 4G+2G coverage pockets via compact, easy-to- install equipment. The community supplies a site, connectivity and power, and we provide the spectrum, core network, operator connectivity, support and know-how.

For the first time communities can take control of their mobile coverage needs. wavemobile is independent of Vodafone, VMO2, EE and ‘3’. We do not rely on them and are independent of their networks (although we are trialing a small number of locations in partnership with VMO2).

We operate in low power spectrum with state-of-the-art equipment designed and built in the UK. Utilising existing connectivity infrastructure where possible and the best alternative where it’s not (for instance Starlink), we dare to be different in our approach to getting communities covered.

01

The Spectrum

wavemobile generally operates on a dedicated OFCOM licenced 3.2MHz spectrum block (a “Shared Access Licence”), ensuring reliable mobile coverage in rural not-spots. Our low-power network enables communities to establish local mobile service without reliance on major operators. Where extra capacity is required we can request an allocation of unused spectrum from the main operators (a “Local Access Licence”). By leveraging cutting-edge UK-built technology, we provide a flexible and independent solution tailored to areas previously left without coverage.

02

Core Network

wavemobile’s independent core network is the backbone of our rural coverage solution. It manages the secure and efficient routing of mobile traffic, ensuring seamless connectivity between local base stations and external operator networks. Designed for flexibility, it supports both 4G data and 2G voice, giving communities reliable, independent mobile service independent of the traditional radio network.

Operator Connectivity

Operator connectivity is supplied via our MNO, and community coverage by installing our compact M3Q or M4Q base station. A Single base station provides simultaneous 4G+2G coverage.

Embrace the rural mobile coverage challenge

Operator connectivity is supplied via our MNO, and community coverage by installing our compact British designed and built M3Q/M4Q base station.

The outdoor unit, is professionally fitted at roof level and offers an optimal range of up to 2kms. This provides a data service on the 4G layer and voice calling on the 2G layer. We are not aiming to be a gigabit class network, but instead provide basic internet and calling capability in otherwise unserved areas.

Our infrastructure, technology and mindset is unique, best of British, and willing to embrace this challenge head-on.

GiLTE

GSM-in-LTE Base Station Technology

Wavemobile GSM-in-LTE Base Station Technology

A Single base station providing simultaneous 4G+2G coverage

GiLTE is an innovative solution to allow 4G-LTE coverage to be extended while maintaining 2G-GSM for CS voice and telemetry.

Mobile communications spectrum has traditionally been allocated in bands for specific radio technologies such as GSM, UMTS and LTE. In many regions, additional spectrum is being made available with fewer restrictions on use such as the UK 1800 MHz guard band.

In addition, many operators expect GSM and LTE to form the backbone of mobile networks for some years to come. GiLTE allows a single base station to provide both GSM and LTE concurrently, with both fully contained within the bandwidth of the LTE signal. This provides a cost-effective and bandwidth-efficient solution.

The GiLTE base station manages this concurrency through smart scheduling and radio control algorithms to minimise interference between the two signals. GiLTE will work in any band for which the mobile devices support both GSM and LTE, for instance band 3 (1800 MHz).
